

“Nature, surprises
and whimsy… “

Laura Morris is a primary school teacher who lives on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland. She is an active member of Queensland Writer’s Centre. In 2025, Laura made the longlist in Hawkeye Publishing Manuscript Development Prize with her Young Adult manuscript, the dystopian The Wall Within. That same year Laura’s short story Tarnished was in the short list of The Sydney Hammond Memorial Short Story Competition and is published in the anthology, If Found, Please Return (hawkeyebooks.com.au). Laura is now featured as one of Hawkeye Publishing’s authors (www.hawkeyebooks/pages/authors). In 2022 Laura placed on the Top 10 shortlist in the Publishable manuscript development program, participating in workshops and the mentorship program (where she was awarded mentorship with author Ellie Marney). Laura was the winner of QWC ‘s Right Left Write short story competition for the month of March in 2023 with her short story, Delft Blue, and also contributed her time as a volunteer beta reader for the Centre. She has recently written a whimsical, magical Middle Grade manuscript The Wonderful Land of Alice.
